Grow box Instructions!
Thanks for buying a Rhyze Mushrooms Grow Box. We hope watching these beautiful mushrooms grow inspires you to learn more about mushroom cultivation. The process should be straightforward if you follow the steps below.
Remove the contents of your grow box (grow bag and scoosher). Carefully cut out the hole marked with a dotted line on the front panel of your cardboard box using scissors or a Stanley knife.
Return the grow bag to the box. You'll be able to see the grow bag through the hole you've just cut out. Using a clean sharp knife, cut a large X in the exposed plastic. Avoid damaging the mycelium block inside the bag by not cutting too deeply.
Place your grow box on a kitchen counter or near a window. Fill the scoosher with water. Twice a day, lift the plastic flaps and directly spray the exposed mycelium with 5 pumps of water. Avoid wetting the box or the ink will run!
Within a week (depending on a number of variables) a cluster of tiny mushrooms should appear. It will take these baby mushrooms 5-7 days to reach full size. Continue spraying them with water as they grow.
Harvest by cutting your cluster away at its base with a sharp knife or scissors, before the caps flatten out fully.
Continue spraying your block twice a day. Within two weeks of your first harvest, your box should start fruiting again.
After your second harvest, your block will have used up much of its moisture. To improve yields for a third flush, you can rehydrate it. Cut the plastic bag open at the top and carefully remove the block from the bag. Submerge it completely in water for thirty minutes, then put it back in the bag and tape the top shut.
After a third flush you should either compost your block - or you could give it another lease of life outdoors. You could either break it up and add it to a pile of straw or wood chip, or bury the block (plastic removed) in some leaf litter, or under a hedge. The mycelium is still alive and presented with a new source of food it may produce more mushrooms!

Troubleshooting:
My mushrooms look dry, their caps are cracking… If your mushrooms look dry, you need to increase humidity by scooshing them more often or moving them to a cooler, less dry room in your house.
My mushrooms are looking very leggy with overly elongated stems… This means your mushrooms need more air flow - put them in a bigger room or more open space
Are my mushrooms ready to harvest? Harvest the whole cluster at once while the cap of the biggest mushroom is still curving under, before it has flattened and dropped its spores.
