WHALE Arts, Wester Hailes
We have collaborated with Whale Arts centre from the very beginnings of our project, and are grateful for their ongoing support. In December 2021 We designed and installed a ‘Mushroom Hotel’ on the north facing side of a shipping container outside the centre. We have also run a number of funded cultivation workshops for their community, including our first ever in September 2021.
“Rhyze Mushrooms have assisted WHALE Arts with a number of projects in the last year including installing a mushroom hotel to a shipping container and building a vegetable planter. They have also run two mushroom cultivation training sessions at the community centre that was well attended by local people and feedback from these sessions was very positive. We started contacting Rhyze with an idea to grow community mushrooms around our centre and gardens and have now developed a strong relationship with the team . We really hope to keep working with them in the future.”

Dalrhyze
Friends of Dalry Cemetery and Rhyze Mushroom Crypt
We are working with Friends of Dalry Cemetery to turn an empty crypt in the graveyard into a mushroom growing space. In Autumn 2022, we held cultivation and lab workshops with the local community, inoculating a variety of containers and logs with mushrooms which we then housed in the crypt. On the 30th October we welcomed around 100 people to the opening of the crypt, where we shared Turkey Tail tea, oyster mushroom stew and learned about the history of the cemetery.
Gracemount Community Garden
We have worked with Gracemount Community Garden to integrate mushroom cultivation into their growing cycle. We have experimented with a variety of techniques, including mushroom beds, mushroom bales and inoculated logs. We have participated in their public events, teaching folk from the Liberton and Gracemount community how to grow mushrooms in their own homes from household waste.
The Wash house Garden, Glasgow
The Wash House Garden is a community supported market garden in the east end of Glasgow. They run a veg box scheme for residents of their local community and host regular volunteer days. We are working with the Wash House to help them diversify into mushroom cultivation to extend their growing season. Through a series of workshops, bespoke resources and ongoing support we are helping the Wash House develop the knowledge and infrastructure to convert their polytunnels into a mushroom growing space during early spring and late autumn.
