EDINBURGH: Thriving sustainable community farm RHYZE MUSHROOMS launches new range of fungi-themed goodies in time for Christmas PLUS Winter Makers Market this Sunday (11 Decemember)

Rhyze Mushrooms has launched a brand new range of fungi-themed gifts in time for Christmas on their new webshop. The community mushroom farm and education project will also host a makers’ market at their farm in Fountainbridge on Sunday 11 December alongside attending farmers and Christmas markets across Edinburgh throughout December.

Mushrooms have never been so popular and since the Rhyze farm became operational in April 2022, the project has gone from strength to strength. Rhyze is now selling their local, sustainable and highly nutritious mushrooms - which are grown primarily on urban waste like sawdust and coffee chaff - through greengrocers like Dig In and New Leaf Cooperative and direct sales at the farm door.

Through running mushroom cultivation workshops across Scotland’s central belt for hundreds of people, partially supported by The National Lottery Community Fund, the Rhyze team have discovered just how much appetite there is out there for alternative methods of growing food in urban spaces.

Mim Black from Rhyze said: “In times of crisis, our long, global supply chains can fail in the face of shocks, leading to empty supermarket shelves and soaring prices. Urban mushroom cultivation is one way we can combat this. It’s really exciting to see fungi being recognised as not only the vital recyclers and connectors of all life on this planet, but an ally in building stronger communities and local food networks.”

This month, they are launching pre-orders of just-add-water mushroom growkits, DIY cultivation kits and a new A2 Edible Mushrooms of Scotland lino-cut art print by associate artist Naomi Scott on their new webshop, alongside a range of other art prints and merch designed in house.

On Sunday 11th December 1-4pm, Rhyze will host a Winter Makers’ Market at the farm (which is located on the ‘meanwhile’ site by the Fountainbridge Canal, slated for development in 2023). Expect artisanal gifts by local makers and charities, music, fire and hot mushroomy drinks.

Rhyze Mushrooms will also be in attendance at markets across Edinburgh throughout December.
